Editorial policy

Our guides help collectors identify, document, and research comic books more carefully. They provide general education and market context—not authentication, a formal appraisal, or a guaranteed selling price.

Research and sourcing

  • We prefer publisher information, indicia and barcode details, established comic references, grading standards, auction records, and relevant completed-sales data.
  • Market values are presented as estimates or ranges and should be supported by relevant comparable sales when available.
  • We distinguish observable issue facts from interpretations about rarity, key status, condition, and market demand.
  • We aim to explain important limitations, including edition differences, variants, restoration, grade uncertainty, and changing market conditions.

Use of artificial intelligence and LLMs

ComicValue uses computer vision, AI, and large language models to assist with comic identification, issue matching, extraction of visible details, classification, and appraisal explanations. AI output is a research aid, not a source of authority. It can be incomplete or wrong, especially when a photo is unclear or a comic has an unusual edition, variant, restoration, or condition issue.

Generated text and model predictions are reviewed and shaped against available comic references and market data where practical. We do not treat visual similarity or an AI result alone as proof of identity, authenticity, grade, rarity, or value.

Images and rights

We aim to use owned, licensed, public-domain, or otherwise authorized images and to describe image sources accurately. A cover image is used to help identify an issue; it is not evidence that every copy of that issue has the same condition or value.

Corrections and updates

We update material when better evidence, corrected issue information, or materially different market data becomes available. If you believe a page contains an error, email [email protected] with the page URL, disputed statement, and supporting source. We review correction requests and make changes when warranted.

Estimates can change with condition, edition, provenance, marketplace, timing, and demand. Read our valuation disclaimer before relying on any estimated range for a purchase, sale, insurance, tax, donation, or other consequential decision.
